Before you fold

    Fold along here. The line disappears inside the model once folded.

    The shaded part is the layer currently facing you.

Keep the pentagon edges aligned as you wrap. Small inaccuracies become visible when you puff the star.

Fold your lucky star

    Start with a long, narrow strip of paper. Form a loop at one end and pull it through, leaving a short tail.

    Flatten the loop so it forms a small pentagon.

    You should seeA flat pentagon with a long strip and a short tail.

  3. Step 3: Tuck the short tail

    Tuck the remaining short strip under both layers of the loop.

  4. Step 4: Turn the model over

    Flip the model around.

    Fold the pentagonal portion down, aligning its top-left edge with the width of the long strip.

Pinch each of the five corners gently to puff the centre into a small star.

The finished traditional star has five soft points and a gently puffed centre.

If the pentagon twists
Undo the last wrap and align its edge with the pentagon before creasing.
If the paper tears
Use a slightly wider strip or loosen the wraps before tucking the tail.
If the star stays flat
Pinch one corner at a time toward the centre instead of squeezing all five at once.
